Turkey Hill Golf Tournament benefits cancer patients

IMG_0668-1.jpgOur deepest thanks to Turkey Hill for their $8,000 gift to the Cancer Patient Support Fund at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute! We’re grateful to be one of the four beneficiaries of their Annual Charity Golf Tournament. This gift will provide vital resources to financially challenged patients who are undergoing cancer care.


St. Anne's students support cancer care

Anne-Barshinger-Cancer-Institute-Donation.jpgFor their January Community Service Project, students of St. Anne School collected care package items for patients undergoing treatment at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute. A donation of $200 for the Cancer Patient Support Fund was also presented. 


Elizabeth Smart benefit for local child victims of crime

IMG_3167-1.JPGA local speaking engagement with special guest Elizabeth Smart raised over $10,000 for the Lancaster County Children's Alliance. Organized by Daniel and Dye and wife Missy, guests to this event had a unique opportunity to hear Elizabeth's inspirational story of survival and courage, and helped to support a vital resource for child victims of crime in our community. 100% of ticket sales will benefit medical services for child victims of crime. 

Pink Patch Project

The Lititz Borough Police Department wore (and sold) a pink version of their regular uniform patches to raise money and awareness about the importance of early detection and treatment in the fight against breast cancer. The pink patches were sold to the public for $10, with patch sales and donations benefiting the Suzanne H. Arnold Center for Breast Health. The Department raised a total of $2,731.23 to benefit the Center.

Special Delivery:  Cancer Care Packages

Campbell Consultants in Washington Boro, along with Thirty-One consultant Stacy Lewis, donated more than 100 care packages to the patients at The Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute in October. The Thirty-One bags were filled with supplies to help patients feel more comfortable while undergoing treatment. Grateful patient Kelly Wood and her incredible support network organized a t-shirt sale to benefit the Image Recovery Fund at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute. Kelly, her family and friends were so moved by the care she received that they worked together to plan and execute this fundraiser to benefit other patients. The sales of the “No One Fights Alone” t-shirts, designed by Kelly’s brother, generated $1,700 for the Fund. Kelly’s caring co-workers also donated cancer patient care packages to the Cancer Institute on the day of her last treatment.

American Heart Association of Lancaster Supports Women & Babies Hospital 

Through funds raised from the 6th annual Lancaster Go Red for Women Pursenalities Party, the American Heart Association of Lancaster provided 50 Infant CPR Anytime kits, educational materials and iPads for families with children born with congenital heart defects at Women & Babies Hospital. A special thank you to the Co-Chairs of Pursenalities, Sandy Brightbill and Heather Rineer, along with the entire event committee, for their hard work and dedication to supporting local families.

2nd Annual Tim Gauthier Memorial Golf Benefit raises $3,360 for Cancer Patient Support Fund

Tim’s loving family members   carried on his memory by playing one of his favorite sports, golf, as a way to raise funds and give  back to the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute that cared fo Tim. Thanks to generous community supporters like the Gauthier’s and their golf sponsors, cancer patients   undergoing treatment at the Cancer Institute who are facing financial need are able receive support from this fund. Thank you Gauthier family and friends!

“No Shave November” for Cancer Awareness and Literacy Awareness

Teachers at Solanco School District’s Smith Middle school organized a fundraiser to raise awareness for cancer and literacy. Two teacher teams competed for student support through loose change, and used books and/or cans of food were collected throughout the month. The school raised over $208 for the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute Fund; the canned goods and used books were donated to the Solanco Literacy Project.

Fulton Bank Marketing Department: Jeans and Hat Day

For the second year in a row, Jodi Groff organized a fundraiser at her place of employment (Fulton Bank, Marketing Department) to benefit patients undergoing active treatment and in need of wigs, hats and other self-image related items. Participating colleagues made a donation of $5 and wore jeans and a favorite hat in support of the Rita Bonchek Cancer Care Fund. Thank you Jodi!

Wolgemuth Auction: Tractor Auction Donation

Dennis and Denise Wolgemuth, owners of Wolgemuth Auctions in Leola, purchased a Cancer Survivor Tractor at an auction in 2016. All proceeds from that sale were to benefit a local cancer treatment facility. Wolgemuth in turn decided to auction it off again locally, with proceeds benefitting the Ann B Barshinger Cancer Institute. The purchaser of the tractor, Case New Holland, paid $16,000 for the equipment, all of which was donated to the Survivorship and Supportive Services Fund at ABBCI. The Wolgemuth’s then decided to match that gift, for a grant total of $32,000. Dennis and Denise Wolgemuth of Wolgemuth Auctions and Bret Lieberman, Vice President of New Holland North America, presented a check to Crystal Mills, Manager, Major Gifts, LG Health Foundation, during the PA Farm Show in Harrisburg in January.  

2016 Extraordinary Give

On Friday, November 18, Lancaster General Health will participate in Lancaster County Community Foundation’s annual Extraordinary Give.

Go the extra mile with us by designating a gift to the LG Health Foundation and/or its participating affiliates: the PA College of Health Sciences, the Lancaster County Children’s Alliance or the Lancaster County Coalition to End Homelessness.

We are proud to be a part of this incredible community giving event and are grateful for your kindness and generosity. Philanthropy from our community plays a critical role in helping us in our mission of providing vital funds to improve patient care, advance research and increase the margin of medical excellence available for our patients and their families.

Together we are doing extraordinary things to strengthen our community!

WeeUsables Consignment Annual Event

The LG Health Foundation and Healthy Beginnings Plus partnered with The Wee Team on their annual WeeUsables Consignment event at Spooky Nook September 19-22 (Lancaster) and at the York Expo (October 6 – 8). Each year a local charity is chosen to receive a portion of the proceeds from the event. Over $5,200 was donated this year to a Healthy Beginnings Plus community program, Cribs for Kids, from proceeds from their “Stuff a Bag” Charity Day. Because of their incredible generosity, over 65 families will now be able to provide a safe sleeping environment for their baby.  Visit their Facebook page for more details.

Unite for HER and Prestige Gymnastics

Gymnasts from Prestige Gymnastics partnered with Unite for HER and participated in the annual Pink Invitational (Philadelphia, Feb. 2016) where gymnasts unite for a fundraising and outreach event. The team raised $1,000 and chose to donate their proceeds to the Image Recovery Center Fund at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute.

Unite for HER is a nonprofit organization that bridges the gap between the medical and wellness communities by funding and delivering complementary therapies that support the physical and emotion needs of those with breast cancer during treatment and beyond. www.uniteforher.org

Image Week at Coleson Fine Clothiers (4/26/16 – 4/3016)

Coleson Fine Clothiers, 36 N. Queen Street, Lancaster, partnered again with the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute to help fund services patients need to restore their appearance and sense of well-being as they go through cancer therapy.

The third annual Image Week was held April 26 through the 30th, culminating with a family-friendly celebration on April 30 at the store. Coleson donated a percentage of all sales that week to support patients who need the services offered at the Image Recovery Center® at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute, which offers specialized skin and hair care, wig fitting, manicures and pedicures, and cosmetic and post-surgical mastectomy products.

Spooky Nook’s First Ever Father’s Day 5K!

Spooky Nook Sports hosted its first 5K Father’s Day Race on Saturday, June 18. Dads, moms, kids, friends, and members of the community participated in this fun event to help raise funds and awareness for the NICU at LG Health/Penn Medicine Women & Babies Hospital. A check was presented for $567 from a portion of the event proceeds.  Thank you Spooky Nook!

Brent L. Miller Jewelers & Goldsmiths and employee and cancer survivor Bev Doughty presented a check to the LG Health Foundation for $3,343, designated for the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute’s Survivorship & Supportive Services Fund. Working with the United Auxiliaries of Lancaster General Health, Brent L. Miller Jewelers held a jewelry sale in December 2015 at Lancaster General Hospital's Duke Street Cafeteria and the Suburban Outpatient Pavilion main lobby.

Nurse-Family Partnership Education Fund

Thank you Hawke McKeon & Sniscak LLP for your generous donation to our Nurse-Family Partnership Education Fund. Attorney Judith Cassel, left, says donations were raised at the firm's holiday party and will go toward helping Nurse-Family Partnership moms complete their educations.

Music for Everyone and the Willie Marble Xperience

Willie Marble Xperience and the World Famous Marbelettes performed a benefit show on Thursday, October 15 at Tellus360. 100% of the proceeds raised that evening will benefit the LG Health Cancer Patient Support Fund. Lancaster County Career & Technology Center (Willow Street Campus)

Students in the Sports Medicine program at the Lancaster County Career & Technology Center (Willow Street) raised $323.87 for the Rita Bonchek Cancer Care Fund at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute!  Pink cupcakes and ribbons were sold during a “Pink Out” day held in October. Thank you to all for this generous gift!

Tanger Outlets

In the spirit of the holidays and the season of giving, a check in the amount of $5,005.69 was presented to the Lancaster General Health Foundation and the Stanley K. Tanger Breast Care Fund as a result of Tanger Outlets’s annual breast cancer awareness campaign. This fund provides a financial safety net for cancer patients and their families so they can focus on healing rather than the financial stress that may result from the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.
