Post Open Heart Cardiac Unit
The Cardiac Unit, part of the nationally recognized Lancaster General Health Heart & Vascular Institute, is a surgical telemetry unit. Primary case types include: pre- and post-operative cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, and medical telemetry.
Emergency Department & Trauma Center
The Emergency Department & Trauma Center treats more than 99,000 patients annually. The expansive, state-of-the-art department has five distinct areas. Lancaster General Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center.
Infusion Team
The Infusion Team provides specialized technical expertise and clinical knowledge related to infusion therapies for the hospital system. The infusion team collaborates within a multi-disciplinary team to provide safe, effective, quality infusion care for patients.
Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
The ICU cares for critically ill medical and surgical patients including open heart surgery patients. Specialized services include: cardiac, hemodynamic, respiratory and renal care.
Intermediate Intensive Care
Intermediate Intensive Care provides care to seriously ill patients. Common disease processes are respiratory failure, renal failure, heart failure, trauma and gastrointestinal bleeding.
Telemetry Units
Five Telemetry Units care for case types that include medical telemetry, pre- and post- catheterization, pre-cardiac intervention, vascular surgery, pulmonary, and neurology.
Heart Failure Unit
The Heart Failure Unit is a telemetry unit that provides care primarily to heart failure patients. A multidisciplinary team of cardiologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, and support staff provide comprehensive, quality patient care. Patient/family educational sessions and multidisciplinary rounds are an integral part of the Heart Failure Program which coordinates care between the inpatient and outpatient environments.
Trauma Neurosurgical Unit
The Trauma Neurosurgical Unit provides intensive primary nursing to critically or seriously ill trauma, neurological, and neurosurgical patients.
Our Medical Outpatient Unit (MOPU) provides outpatient care to patients requiring invasive and non-invasive cardiology procedures, and invasive radiology procedures such as arteriograms, IV medications, and blood transfusions.
Medical-Surgical Units
Five adult Medical-Surgical units provide care with special emphasis on:
- Gastrointestinal and infectious diseases
- Urological and pulmonary disorders, surgeries including hernia repair, bowel surgery, appendectomy, cholecystectomy and thyroid
- Neurological, neurosurgical and trauma disorders and diseases
- Internal Medicine
Inpatient Oncology Unit
The Inpatient Oncology Unit, which is part of the Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute, is designed to provide treatment for cancer diagnoses whether the goal of treatment is cure, control, palliation or prophylaxis. The types of malignancies treated include cancers of the lung, breast, prostate and colon. An outpatient oncology unit is also available.
Orthopedic Center
The Orthopedic Center includes general orthopedics and joint replacements. The facility includes 10 custom-designed, state-of-the-art orthopedic surgical suites for inpatient and outpatient surgeries, 42 hospital private patient rooms, and a dedicated joint care unit with a physical therapy gym near the patient rooms. Advanced physical and occupational therapy, inpatient rehabilitation, and a full complement of other hospital services are also offered with one focus--orthopedics.
Family Health Service
Family Health Service is a family practice site for resident education. Faculty physicians maintain continuity practices within Family Health. Other specialty clinics include comprehensive care for HIV, dermatology, allergy, immigration, rheumatology, urology, neurology, obstetrics, gynecology and GI.
Walter L. Aument Family Health Center
The Walter L. Aument Family Health Center, located in Quarryville, PA, provides continuity of care for the entire family. It serves as a site for family practice resident education and faculty physician continuity practices. A wide variety of diagnostic and therapeutic services are offered including laboratory, radiology and cardiology.
The Pediatrics Unit provides care to sick children from the newborn period through adolescence, as well as inpatient pre/post-surgery procedures, outpatient surgery post-op and outpatient medical procedures. Care to children up to age 18 years includes medical disease processes and surgical interventions.
Pre-Anesthesia Clinic
Pre-Anesthesia Clinic staff assess, screen and interview patients scheduled with anesthesia for surgical, therapeutic and/or diagnostic intervention. The pre-anesthesia staff act as liaisons to the patient's physician to assure patients are prepared for a safe, efficient, and optimal operative experience.
Main Pre-Operative Unit
The Main Pre-Operative Unit provides pre-operative care to all day surgery, same day admission, and in-house patients having surgery in the main operating room. There are 24 pre-operative patient rooms.
Main Operating Room
The main operating room provides surgical, therapeutic, and diagnostic interventions in 15 main operating suites, three open-heart suites, one trauma suite, and one cystoscopy suite. The unit is open and staffed 24/7.
Main Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
The Main PACU is an 18-bed, phase 1 post-anesthesia recovery area that renders services to a variety of surgical and procedural patients of all ages and conditions. The main PACU is a 24/7 "critical care" unit accommodating patients of all ages and levels of health. The goal of this unit is to provide safe emergence from anesthesia and patient care/stabilization in the immediate post-operative phase.
Main Post-operative Care Unit (MPOCU)
The MPOCU is a 13-bed, phase 1 and phase 2 post-anesthesia recovery area that provides care for the outpatient post-anesthesia patient during initial recovery from anesthesia until their discharge to home. This unit provides a family-centered environment promoting the safe discharge of the ambulatory surgical population.
Perioperative Short Stay Unit (SSU)
The SSU is a 15-bed medical-surgical unit that provides care for the 23-hour post-operative/post-procedural patient. The goal of this unit is to provide on-going nursing evaluation and care, promoting a safe and early patient discharge to the patient’s home location.
The Orthopedic Center
The Orthopedic Center provides pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care to patients scheduled for orthopedic procedures. There are 16 pre/post patient care rooms, a 14-bed PACU, and eight dedicated orthopedic operating rooms.
Endoscopy Department
The Endoscopy Department cares for the outpatient and inpatient gastrointestinal and pulmonary populations. The department operates primarily on weekdays with occasional weeknights/weekends for emergency procedures. There are 18 pre-op/post-op beds and 5 procedure rooms.
Interventional Vascular Unit (IVU)
The IVU provides care to the inpatient and outpatient population for interventional vascular procedures. The department operates during the day Monday through Friday, with nights, holidays and weekends for emergency cases only. There are 17 pre/post beds, two interventional procedure rooms, and 1 minor procedure room.
WBH Perioperative Services
Perioperative Services at Women & Babies Hospital provides pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care for inpatient and outpatient procedures for women. There are 10 pre/post patient care rooms, a 10 bed PACU, and 5 operating rooms.
Surgery Center at the Suburban Pavilion (SOP SC)
The Surgery Center at the Suburban Pavilion provides preoperative, intra-operative, and post-operative care to patients scheduled for outpatient surgery. The center operates Monday through Friday with 6 operating rooms.
The Mental Health Unit is designed to provide acute psychiatric care to patients ages 18 and older. Most patients are voluntarily admitted, but can be admitted on an emergency basis or court-ordered.
Lancaster General Health Women & Babies Hospital is a family-centered hospital focused completely on the health care needs of women.
Couplet Care
Couplet Care provides care to mothers and babies after delivery. The unit consists of private rooms designed to accommodate the mother and infant as a couplet, and allow a significant other to stay with the new family for support and education.
Labor & Delivery, Triage, and the Special Care Units
Labor & Delivery, Triage, and the Special Care units provide services to outpatients and inpatients, including low and high risk obstetrical patients and gynecological patients requiring additional monitoring. The Special Care Unit is designed to meet the needs of the antepartum patient population, including those requiring telemetry monitoring.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is the only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Lancaster County. It is a nursery designed, equipped and staffed to care for babies who need special care, equipment and skilled observation.

Women's Inpatient Unit
The Women’s Inpatient Unit was designed by women especially for women requiring outpatient or inpatient services. It is equipped and staffed to provide a wide range of surgical and medical services to pregnant and non-pregnant patients.
