We may not feel a chill in the air just yet, but fall has unofficially arrived. The kids are back in school, the pools are closed – and most importantly, football is back on TV.
Our days are so busy that it can be challenging to connect with our colleagues. Progress Notes is doing our part to change that.
I hope you enjoy this month’s interview with Dr. Don Berkow, president of Lancaster Emergency Associates. LEA celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. As you might imagine, a lot has changed since the days when an ED visit cost $5.
You’ll also read about LG Health’s innovative systemwide approach to treating low-back pain. The new protocol reduces opioid use, unnecessary tests and treatments, as well as related costs. It’s already met with great success – and an award from the Pennsylvania Hospital and Healthsystem Association.
This month you’ll meet 16 physicians who are new to LG Health. We’ve also started a new feature full of “quick hits” on your colleagues’ accomplishments. We try to keep up with what’s going on, but with a Medical Staff of almost 1,000 -- make that 1,016 -- we’re bound to miss something. Please don’t be shy about sending us your news.
Finally, does anyone else miss the doctors’ lounge? Now it seems like we rarely stop for a quick chat, let alone actually eat lunch. A group of young physicians has created their own modern-day doctors’ lounge, hosting after-hours get-togethers that build camaraderie both inside and outside the office. Sounds like a great idea to me.
Thank you for reading Progress Notes. Please feel free to discuss this issue with a colleague at your favorite watering hole. Bonus points if there’s a football game involved.
