From Jan Bergen, President & CEO
2018 has been an especially memorable year for Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health.
Our celebration of Lancaster General Hospital’s 125th anniversary was the highlight of a very exciting year. The success of our community event and Embrace 125 gala reflect LG Health’s unique status as a legacy organization that is deeply rooted in the Lancaster community.
LG Health touches our community in so many ways, from providing high-quality health care and addressing social issues that can impact health to supporting the local economy. It was a lovely tribute to see the community so engaged in our 125th anniversary celebrations.
As we commemorated LG Health’s rich history, we also prepared to serve our patients well into the future. The new Frederick Building at LGH opened in April, enabling us to provide care in a patient-centered environment affording the latest technology, while also facilitating our conversion to all private inpatient rooms.
The Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital, which opened in July, provides much-needed services to our community. Continued expansion of our ambulatory network included renovations to our Kissel Hill outpatient center, as well as new primary-care and specialty practices joining LG Health Physicians.
The Penn Medicine system continued to grow throughout the region in 2018, with construction progressing on the Pavilion, a new $1.5 billion hospital in Philadelphia, and the October groundbreaking for a state-of-the-art outpatient center in Radnor, just west of the city.
In August, LG Health joined our colleagues throughout the health system in adopting the Penn Medicine Experience Standards, ensuring a consistently extraordinary experience anywhere our patients receive care.
None of these achievements would be possible without our dedicated providers and staff. In 2018, LG Health successfully recruited more than 65 physicians and advanced practice providers, enabling us to increase access for our patients and offer highly specialized services not previously available locally.
The engagement of our entire staff is essential to our ongoing continuous improvement efforts. In 2018, we implemented an estimated 9,300 of your ideas, leading directly to improvements in patient care, as well as your work environment and the benefits we offer.
These are just a few of LG Health’s notable achievements in 2018. I am deeply grateful for the hard work and commitment of our clinicians and staff, who provide the care and services our community has so appreciated for more than 125 years.
