Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health spread holiday cheer to patients with festive activities, events and decorations.
Santa Claus made his annual visit to the NICU at Women & Babies Hospital Dec. 23. Santa (aka an LG Health volunteer) posed for special keepsake “Baby’s First Christmas” photos. Nurse “elves” gave a stocking full of presents to each baby in the NICU over Christmas.
Chris Putney, M.D., of Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health Physicians Family Medicine Strasburg, led a festive annual effort to bring presents and joy to young patients. Dr. Putney, his family and friends donned holiday costumes Dec. 21 and visited children at Women & Babies Hospital, the LGH Pediatric Unit and Emergency Department.
Thanks to a record level of donations from patients, LG Health executives and FM Strasburg staff, Dr. Putney purchased video gaming systems and swings for future visitors to the pediatric unit. FM Strasburg staff and LGHP leaders volunteered their time to wrap gifts in preparation for delivery.
The Patient Transport team at Lancaster General Hospital created handmade cards for all patients who were hospitalized over Christmas. This project is a true labor of love for the team, which used their break time to make over 400 cards, ensuring that every single patient received one.
The 5 Frederick nursing unit at LGH transformed the front nurses’ station into a gingerbread house and decorated a gingerbread man-themed tree. Each staff member, including CNS, housekeeping and dietary techs, had a stocking for colleagues to share encouraging notes and goodies.
