In honor of its broad-based efforts to improve the lives of the most vulnerable members of its community, Lancaster General Health/Penn Medicine was named a finalist for the prestigious 2015 Foster G. McGaw Prize for Excellence in Community Service, one of the most esteemed community service honors in healthcare.
The Water Street Refugee Health Clinic is one of the many community programs LG Health/Penn Medicine supports. In this instance LG Health provides health services and language translation.
The Foster G. McGaw Prize is sponsored by The Baxter International Foundation and the American Hospital Association (AHA) and Health Research & Educational Trust. This year marks the award’s 30th anniversary. As a finalist, LG Health/Penn Medicine will receive $10,000 to be used to support community health initiatives. “It is humbling that our community efforts have been recognized nationally in this way,” said Jan Bergen, President & Chief Executive Officer, Lancaster General Health. “However, it is even more gratifying to see that our focus on making our community healthier has become engrained in everything we do.” The award’s funds will be used to obtain and implement new technology designed specifically to track and support LG Health’s social services coordination.
