The American Heart Association and The Heart & Vascular Institute at Lancaster General Health marked Bike Month in May by unveiling the first of two new bike repair stations in downtown Lancaster.

Amber Liptack, Heart Walk Director, Lancaster Division; Brenda Buescher, LG Health Community Health Specialist; Tim Zellers, Executive Director, Heart & Vascular Institute; and Alice Yoder, LG Health Director of Community Health; were part of the day’s unveiling and recognition.

The first repair station was unveiled in Binns Park during the Bike to Work Day celebration May 20. The second station will be installed at Lancaster’s Central Market at a later date. The public bike repair stations include equipment to inflate tires and change bolts, as well as other tools.

The project is part of a collaboration between the AHA and The Heart & Vascular Institute. The sponsorship also includes serving as the platform sponsor of the Lancaster Heart Walk and teaching gardens for students of Wickersham Elementary, VisionCorps, Hamilton Elementary, Lafayette Elementary and Lancaster Mennonite New Danville campus.
