Lancaster smokers are being encouraged to find #OneGoodReason to kick the habit in November. A new public-awareness campaign by the American Cancer Society and supported by the Tobacco Free Coalition of Lancaster County uses the “Great American Smokeout” on Nov. 17 as its focal point.

The campaign, which launched on Nov. 1 and runs through the end of the month, asks smokers and other tobacco product users to share their #OneGoodReason to quit on the #OneGoodReason Facebook page.

While smoking overall is down in Lancaster and elsewhere, 42 million Americans continue to smoke or use tobacco products and cancer from tobacco use is still the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the United States. A recent county health assessment estimates that there are more than 81,000 adults in Lancaster who use tobacco.
