LG Health and Lighten Up Lancaster County have numerous events planned across the county to celebrate National Food Day.
Food Day is a national, annual event to raise awareness about the importance of eating fresh, healthy food; developing safe and sustainable food systems; reducing food insecurity; and ensuring humane conditions for food workers. Lighten Up Lancaster County (LULC) wants to encourage families to make healthy food choices between Food Day, Oct. 24, and the American Heart Association’s National Eating Healthy Day on Nov. 2.
LULC has planned numerous events across the county.
Monday, Oct. 24 ~ Farm Volunteer Day at Buckhill Farm in Lititz, 9 a.m. to noon.
Lend a hand around the farm and harvest seasonal produce. Take this opportunity to learn about where our healthy, local food comes from.
Monday, Oct. 24 – Wednesday, Nov. 2 ~ 10-Day Healthy Eating Challenge
Challenge yourself to 10 days of healthy eating! Choose the beginner challenge and work on one simple habit each day that will lead to a healthier diet. Or try the advanced challenge and cut out junk food entirely for 10 days. Gather your co-workers and get your whole office involved!
Tuesday, Oct. 25 ~ Film Screening: Hungry For Change, HACC-Lancaster Community Room, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Hungry for Change exposes secrets that the food industry may not want you to know about, deceptive strategies designed to keep you coming back for more. Find a healthier eating pattern and escape the diet trap forever!
Thursday, Oct. 27 ~ Fall Cooking Class, Lancaster City YMCA, 12:15 – 1 p.m.
Learn to make quick and easy healthy meals and snacks with a secret fall ingredient! Class participants will work together in teams for hands-on learning in this fun & festive class.
