Most of our waking hours are spent in the workplace. Wellness culture during the workday can contribute to one’s better overall health and well-being. Since 2007, Lighten Up Lancaster County (LULC) has worked with local businesses to create a healthier atmosphere at work. On Sept. 21, LULC will sponsor a Well Workplace Roundtable event. This event, in partnership with the Lancaster County Business Group on Health and LiveWell Lancaster County, will recognize the efforts of local business recipients of “Well Workplace” designations from the Lancaster County Health Summit in May. It will also offer opportunities for local business leaders to network and share best practices. “Employers who want to understand how to measure the return on the investment of wellness programs, as well as ways to inspire employees of all ages and abilities to take action to improve their health, should attend.” said Brenda Buescher, Health Promotion Specialist, LG Health. Executive leaders, workplace wellness program coordinators, wellness committee members, and human resource professionals can benefit from presentations from Lancaster General Health, Dutchland, Inc., and Moravian Manor about their award-winning workplace wellness programs. Participants will also join smaller groups of colleagues for roundtable discussions to discuss strategies for increasing participation in workplace wellness programs, ways to keep programs exciting and fresh, and using technology to encourage healthy habits. LG Health staff members Brenda Buescher and Sue Lackmann support the Well Workplace initiative and provide technical assistance to local businesses who are interested in promoting healthy eating, physical activity, mental well-being, and tobacco-free living among their employees.
