Lancaster General Health infuses nearly $1.7 billion into the local economy through business and household spending, according to new data recently released by a statewide hospital trade association.
According to The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania, LG Health is responsible for about 1.5 percent of the $121 billion that hospitals contribute to the state’s economy. In the South Central Pennsylvania region, LG Health constitutes 15.6 percent of the nearly $10.9 billion spent by hospitals, directly and indirectly.
The 9,829 jobs at LG Health or at its service providers and contractors account for 1.7 percent of the state’s 589,028 hospital jobs – 13.9 percent regionally. Statewide, hospital employees account for one out of every 10 jobs.
With an annual payroll of $349 million, the average annual salary at LG Health is over $67,000 – a family-sustaining income. On average in Pennsylvania, about 60 percent of money spent on hospital care goes to staff wages and benefits.
