The Lancaster General Health Experience
What to expect before, during and after spider vein treatment
At your initial consultation, your cosmetic surgeon will evaluate your vein system, checking to see if you may also have varicose veins. While spider vein treatment can sometime address minor varicose veins, more serious varicose veins require care from a vascular surgeon.
During the approximately 30-minute spider vein treatment, your surgeon uses a very fine needle to inject a chemical solution into the vein. The painless procedure quickly and often permanently collapses the vein.
You may require several treatments depending on the extent of the spider veins. The spider veins that have been treated will not return, although it’s possible for other spider veins to appear in the same area.
We will advise you to use compression bandages immediately after the procedure to help reduce swelling. Bruising can last up to three months. Our team will provide aftercare instructions to help speed your recovery.
Spider vein treatment risks
Risks of spider vein treatment are rare, and when complications occur they are mild. If the chemical agent used during the procedure comes it contact with nearby skin, it can temporarily change the skin’s color. We will check in with you throughout the healing process and are always available to address any concerns you may have.
