What is microneedling?

Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy. It can be an effective approach to rejuvenate skin texture (acne scarring) and improve skin firmness. This treatment creates tiny micro-channels in the skin, promoting growth of new collagen and elastin.

Microneedling is used to treat:

  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Crow’s feet
  • Sun damage
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Stretch marks
  • Acne scars

Microneedling can can be used on non-facial areas such as the abdomen for stretch marks or the backs of hands, although the face/neck is most common.

The Lancaster General Health Experience

What to expect during microneedling

To ensure your comfort during your microneedling treatment, our licensed medical aesthetician starts by applying an anesthetic cream. Your provider will use a pen-like device that contains 36 needles which will be used over the area being treated.

The microneedling procedure lasts about 30 minutes. You may experience skin redness and a sensation like a mild sunburn that will fade over the next several days. Most patients require anywhere from four to eight treatments, spaced a month apart.

Microneedling cost

Depending on your treatment goals and other services you may undergo, microneedling costs vary. We will discuss the cost of microneedling with you during your consultation.

Microneedling risks

Although risks from microneedling treatment are minor, some people may experience allergic reactions or complications, including infection, if post-care instructions are not followed. To help ensure this does not happen, our aesthetician will talk with you about the best post-care instructions. She will also discuss any risks specific to your procedure.
