Masking Guidelines

Updated January 31, 2025

We have policies and guidelines to help make sure you receive high-quality care in a safe, respectful, and dignified environment.

There are high rates of flu and other respiratory viruses in our region. To help keep everyone safe, we strongly recommend that patients, visitors, and staff wear masks in areas where patients with weakened immune systems receive care. This includes:

  • Emergency department and urgent care waiting rooms
  • Dedicated oncology, radiation oncology, and transplant clinics
  • Infusion centers

Anyone who wants to wear a mask is welcome to do so. We encourage patients who are immunocompromised to continue to wear masks in all of our facilities for additional protection. Any patient or visitor who has a cough, runny nose, or other respiratory symptoms, must wear a surgical mask while inside Penn Medicine facilities.

At Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health your health and safety is our top priority. Our goal is to make sure our patients get the care they need, when they need it, in the safest possible way.

We are also here to be a resource for you. Throughout this section, you will find important information on our visitation guidelines, testing and vaccine information, and answers to your questions about COVID-19. You may also call your clinician with any coronavirus questions.
