[Dr. Nicholson] "For some women who are diagnosed with gestational diabetes, eating a healthy diet and exercise is not quite enough to get their blood sugar levels in the normal range.
You may have done an excellent job with your exercise and eating a healthy diet.
But sometimes in pregnancy we do need to add medication.
That medication could include insulin or several other oral pills or oral medications that could help your glucose levels to stay in the normal range.
Your doctor will talk to you about whether or not you need these additional medications.
Your doctor will talk to you about the appropriate dosage for you in your pregnancy.
And if you need medication it's going to be important for you to continue to monitor your glucose levels and record them even after you start the medications.
We want your blood glucose levels to be in the normal range.
We don't want them to be high, but we also don't want them to be too low."
