Lancaster General Hospital (LGH) has been recognized among U.S News & World Report’s Best Hospitals for 2015-16. The hospital earned a best ranking in three specialties and was ranked fifth among Pennsylvania hospitals. Additionally, LGH earned “high performing” rankings in four specialties.

In selecting the top hospitals in 12 of 16 specialties, U.S. News performs an extensive analysis of measures of performance in three primary dimensions of healthcare – structure, process and outcomes.

“The U.S. News annual study is widely considered one of the nation's most thorough and reliable measures of medical quality,” said Thomas E. Beeman, Ph.D., FACHE, President and CEO of LG Health. “Recognition validates our efforts to provide an unparalleled level of care to the communities we serve, while establishing a benchmark for us to measure our continued success.”

Lancaster General Hospital ranked nationally in the following three specialties: Diabetes & Endocrinology (ranked #44); Gastroenterology & GI Surgery (ranked #45); Orthopedics (ranked #39). “High performing” specialties include: Geriatrics; Nephrology; Neurology & Neurosurgery; Pulmonology.

The 26th annual U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients. Of the approximately 5,000 U.S hospitals evaluated, only 137, or about three percent, earned a national ranking in at least one specialty, making LGH’s honors in three specialties even more significant.
