LG Health Blood Bank Team Thanks Community

To the Lancaster Community:
 
We are grateful to you! During this past winter there was a critical need for blood for the patients at Lancaster General Health. Unfortunately an unusually high number of people had suffered serious injuries from automobile accidents and work injuries. 

The need was so great that at times we had to go beyond our own community resources to meet inventory. It is not well known that LG Health’s blood bank is unlike other local and national organizations that accept blood donations. As a hospital, we collect nearly 100% of the blood that we need for our patients. 

In other words, our community donates to support our community. By contrast LG Health keeps the donated blood within our community and those who donate to LG Health at the Blood Donor Center in the Suburban Outpatient Pavilion, or at a community blood drive, are able to fill the needs of LG Health’s patients. This winter was challenging and in light of our critical shortages, LG Health’s Blood Donor Center put out word through Lancaster Newspapers (LNP), WGAL, Facebook and Twitter of the desperate need for blood donations. The community’s response was immediate.
 
We are so grateful to each of you who heeded our call and came in to donate your precious blood. It is a testament to the community spirit of Lancaster that within a day of reporting the shortage, every chair in the Blood Donor Center was occupied from morning till night, and donors lined up in the reception area patiently waiting their turn to roll up their sleeves and pass on to others the gift of much needed blood. Your sacrifice helped neighbors, surgery and cancer patients, accident victims, and new moms. You made a life-to-life difference for someone you may never meet. You are a vital resource!  Thank you.
