Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health is proud to celebrate Women in Medicine Month in September, an annual recognition honoring the growth and advancement of women in the medical profession and celebrating those who have offered their time, wisdom and support to champion women’s medical careers.

The American Medical Association (AMA) created Women in Medicine Month with a focus on physicians and clinicians. At Lancaster General Health, we choose to extend the recognition to include the many essential roles in healthcare that our patients depend on for exceptional delivery of care, including nursing, technical, administrative, service professionals, and more.

This year marks 100 years since Lancaster General Hospital welcomed its first female physician intern. Since then, we have made many strides to increase and advance opportunities for women in our field and are committed to fostering a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion. Today, we employ more than 7,700 women, including 20 female physician residents. We also celebrated more than 450 female graduates at the Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences’ most recent graduation.

Please join us throughout the month in saluting the many talented professionals who work tirelessly to promote the advancement of women and make an enormous impact on the health and well-being of our community.
