Comprehensive Emergency Care

Lancaster General Hospital is the only accredited Level I Trauma Center in Lancaster County.

The Emergency Medicine and Trauma Service departments at Lancaster General Health's Lancaster General Hospital provide comprehensive emergency care to individuals with major and minor illnesses. Each year, more than 100,000 patients visit our Emergency Department, which offers private rooms for triage and treatment to assure confidentiality and privacy.

Lancaster General Hospital is the only accredited Level I Trauma Center in Lancaster County and the second such center in the University of Pennsylvania Health System. In addition to having a trauma surgeon onsite 24 hours a day and a dedicated operating room, Level I trauma centers offer a full spectrum of medical specialists, as well as trauma research and surgical residency programs.

Lancaster General Hospital is one of the busiest trauma centers in the region, seeing more than 2,800 trauma patients in 2019. A large majority of these patients were injured as the result of a fall or motor vehicle crash.
