Admission Requirements
Doctoral candidates (Ph.D. or Psy.D. degrees) in good standing from The American Psychological Association approved doctoral programs in Clinical and Counseling Psychology are eligible to apply for the Doctoral Internship Training Program. Applicants from other countries may apply but will require appropriate visas for the duration of their training. Applicants must provide a statement from their Department Chair documenting current status within their academic program and readiness to begin an internship (Part II: APPIC).
Candidates must have completed all academic course work and comprehensive examinations leading to a doctoral degree at start of the internship. Students are encouraged to complete their dissertation prior to starting their internship. At a minimum, dissertation proposals must be completed prior to the start of the training year. While completing a minimum number of supervised intervention and assessment practicum hours is not a designated requirement, it is recommended that students accrue sufficient experience in settings dealing with psychological, physical, cognitive or health related issues prior to start of the internship. Generally, students with greater training and experience in neuropsychological assessment are more likely to be invited for an interview than those students with less experience. Candidates from minority and/or disability backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
Application Information
The Training Program follows all policies of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC). These policies can be found at http:/www.appic.org. The Training Program utilizes the APPIC application, which can be downloaded from the APPIC website. Complete applications must be submitted through the AAPI online portal no later than 11:59 PM EST by the end of the first week of November of the current year for internship appointment beginning in August of the following year. Applications are considered complete upon receipt of all required parts of the APPIC application, including: a Verification of Internship Eligibility and Readiness completed by your University Director of Clinical Training, a current curriculum vita, official graduate school transcripts and three letters of recommendations. In addition, applicants are required to provide a sample of a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment report that they have completed.
Applications are reviewed by program faculty to determine which applicants will be scheduled for in-person interviews. Candidates will be notified by the end of the first week of December as to whether they will be admitted for an interview, with interviews typically scheduled the second Thursday of January.
On interview day, the morning is dedicated to an overview of the program, and a virtual tour of the outpatient facilities. This is followed by individual interviews with multiple staff pairings as well as group sessions with current interns where candidates are encouraged to ask questions about any aspect of the internship program. Our interview day occurs virtually and is provided only on the designated interview date.
