Daniel Russo, MD, started working at LG Health Physicians Family Medicine Lititz and Family Medicine Lititz Kissel Hill in August 2020, right in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked Dr. Russo about that experience and what it’s like to practice medicine in his hometown.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Lititz and went to Warwick High School. I studied at Penn State for my undergraduate education and then attended the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. I completed my Family Medicine residency at Wellspan York Hospital.

What do you like most about Lititz?

It is great to finally be back in Lancaster County and to be able to work in my hometown.

What are your areas of special expertise or interest?

My special areas of interest include medication assisted therapy for opioid addiction (suboxone) and international medicine (having worked in hospitals and clinics in Kenya, Ghana and Ethiopia).

What has it been like to care for patients during a pandemic?

Establishing as a new doctor at a family medicine practice mid-pandemic has had its share of challenges, including having to meet patients for the first time often via video telemedicine and having less in-person contact with coworkers and specialists.

Can you talk about your special connection to Family Medicine Lititz?

I am a second-generation family physician and have enjoyed working at the same practice as my father, Dr. Marc Russo. My wife Elaina Truax Russo is also a family physician at Family Medicine New Holland. When not at work, we have our hands full with our infant daughter.
