If you or a loved one needs a wheelchair or scooter, Lancaster General Health offers a wheelchair and seating assessment program to help you learn more about available mobility technologies.

Our experienced and certified assistive technology professional will explain your options, help ensure your new wheelchair or scooter is a good fit, or suggest changes to make your existing equipment more comfortable.

Who May Benefit from Wheelchair Assessment

The wheelchair and seating assessment program may benefit individuals with:

  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Back pain due to improper seating
  • Brain injury
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Frailty
  • Lower limb amputation
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Muscular dystrophy
  • Pressure ulcers due to improper seating
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Stroke

What to Expect

Mobility technologies include power wheelchairs, wheelchair/scooters, and manual wheelchairs. When referred to the wheelchair and seating assessment program, our assistive technology professional will meet with you and your preferred equipment vendor to determine your eligibility for various technology. We offer pressure-mapping to assess various cushions and seating systems. If custom-molded seating is necessary, more than one session may be required to complete the evaluation. We can also help you learn to use your equipment safety, and work with your physician and vendor to help you navigate your insurance coverage. Your physician or equipment supplier may refer you for evaluation.
