Lancaster P.E.T. Imaging has offered PET scans to patients in central Pennsylvania since 2001. It is a joint venture of Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health and Lancaster Radiology Associates.

What is a PET/CT Scan?

A PET/CT scan combines both computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET) into one machine. A PET/CT scan shows information about both the structure and function of cells and tissues in the body in the duration of a single imaging session.

It is a highly sensitive imaging tool for detecting metabolic activity in cells.

It is useful for:

  • Detecting lung cancer, melanoma, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and other cancers
  • Early identification of neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s and dementia
  • Differentiating between benign and malignant lesions
  • Monitoring tumor location, size and metabolic activity
  • Guiding treatment selection and delivery
  • Assessing the effectiveness of a treatment plan, such as cancer therapy
