A native of Lancaster County, PA, the Reverend Keith Espenshade returned to Lancaster in 1998 to supervise the CPE program at Lancaster General Hospital. Keith’s educational preparation includes a B.A. from Messiah College and a M.Div. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He is an ordained Mennonite pastor, and has served churches in Illinois and Allentown, PA.
Keith’s CPE experience started at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem, PA. He then received two years of supervisory education at Asbury Methodist Village, a continuing care retirement community in Gaithersburg, MD. After coming to Lancaster, his supervisory process continued through York Health Systems until he was certified as an Associate Educator. Since 2007, Keith has been involved with Systems-Centered Training® and SAVI® (System for Analyzing Verbal Interactions), which inform his teaching. He is a certified SAVI® Trainer and Master Coder.
Keith’s supervisory style invites self-exploration, skill development, and relational growth. He supports and challenges the students throughout their self-directed learning process. Keith continues to hone his pastoral care skills through covering some on-call and visiting patients. He is frequently accessible to students in addition to scheduled individual sessions.
