Quality Standards: Oncology

The cancer program at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health is accredited by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer (CoC), a reflection of our commitment to providing high-quality, multifaceted, patient-centered care. We have a team of experienced cancer specialists dedicated to each major type of cancer, including brain, breast, colon/GI and lung. Each team includes physicians, nurses, radiation therapists, nurse and patient navigators, social workers, dietitians and more, who follow national, evidence-based guidelines for care and keep up with the latest advances in research.

Experience of Patients Receiving Cancer Care
This measures scores the overall rating of patient experience collected from patient surveys and reflects high satisfaction.
Patients Receiving Appropriate Radiation Therapy for Cancer that has Spread to the Bone
This measures scores the appropriate use of radiation therapy and reflects safe and effective care.
Unplanned Inpatient Readmissions within 30 days of Discharge
This measure scores the utilization of inpatient hospitalizations within 30 days after an inpatient discharge for all causes. The score reflects low readmission rates and high performance.
Number of Inpatient Admissions to Short-Term Acute Care Hospitals
This measure scores the rate of oncology patients that require hospitalization for all causes. The score reflects low hospitalization utilization.
Patients with Hospital Use Within 30 days Before Death
This measure scores the utilization of inpatient hospitalizations within 30 days of death. The score reflects low hospitalization utilization.
