Symptom management is a key part of patient care at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute. Our Symptom Management Clinic, part of the Oncology Supportive Care (OSC) program, strives to proactively prevent problems and establish a pathway for patients to get help when needed.
Green Team 717-544-9532
Orange Team 717-544-9531
Patients who are diagnosed with cancers associated with more severe symptoms or treatments are referred for OSC. The team, which includes physician assistants, nurse navigators, social workers and a chaplain, meets with patients on designated clinic days to discuss their diagnosis, treatment and symptoms, as well as tools and resources for managing their care.
When patients experience new or worsening symptoms such as pain, nausea, or shortness of breath—whether related to cancer or the side effects of treatment—our staff makes every effort to see them that same day or the next.
A triage phone line is available 24/7 to address emergent care. From 8 am – 4 pm, Monday – Friday, patients can contact their assigned team: blue, green, orange. For emergent needs after hours, an on-call oncologist is available at 717-544-9400.
