As part of the nationally renowned Penn Medicine health system, Penn Fertility Care-Lancaster General Health is at the forefront of fertility care. We have access to the latest research, cutting-edge clinical trials and other resources that can help people with cancer-related fertility challenges achieve their dream of having a child.

Fertility Preservation Research

Penn Medicine has one of the most highly funded reproductive research programs in the nation. And as the only fertility-specific research center in the Philadelphia region, they are uniquely qualified to evaluate and treat people with challenging or complex cases of infertility.

Experts at Penn are always investigating newer, better ways to deliver care. For example, researchers are developing new techniques for the long-term preservation of human ovarian tissue and a method to regulate oocyte (egg) development in vitro (outside the body). The cryopreserved ovarian tissue or oocytes would then be used to initiate pregnancies after cancer treatment.

Oncofertility Consortium

Penn Fertility Care specialists and Penn researchers have joined forces with Northwestern University and three other centers to form The Roadmap Interdisciplinary Oncofertility Consortium. The Consortium's goal is to provide reproductive options for women with cancer and other fertility-threatening diseases.

Cancer and Fertility Clinical Trials

Clinical trials are research studies that evaluate the effectiveness of new tests and treatments. Patients at Penn Fertility Care - Lancaster General Health may be able to participate in clinical trials related to cancer and fertility through Penn Medicine in Philadelphia. We encourage you to browse the full list of active clinical trials and talk to your fertility specialist about eligibility, risks and benefits.
